CEA Designation

Instructions about CEA designation

The CBCA will place the “¢” designation next to an animal’s registered name to indicate that the animal is clear of the Collie Eye Anomaly mutation in the following circumstances:

Animals currently registered with the CBCA

  • The applicant/owner provides a report indicating that the animal has been genetically tested and does not carry the gene for CEA;

  • The report comes from a laboratory that approved by the CBCA (see list);

  • The report includes the animal’s name and unique identifier (tattoo or microchip) as recorded with the CBCA, the owner’s name, and the date of the test.

Animals transferring in from another registry

  • Notwithstanding that the designation has been provided by another registry, the CBCA requires that a report as above be provided if the owner wishes the designation on the CBCA certificate.

Animals clear by parentage

  • A litter of pups or an individual animal that is the registered offspring of two animals who have been granted the designation by the CBCA will also be granted the designation.

Cost

  • On receiving the appropriate documentation, the registrar will ad the “¢” designation to the dog’s record in the CBCA registry database at no cost. If the owner wants a replacement certificate showing the designation, the usual fee of $10 for a replacement certificate will apply.
