World Trial Team Selection

The CBCA Board will invite handlers to join the 2026 World team on the following basis until all spots are filled.  (Canada had 5 spots in 2023):

 1.      Highest placed Canadian team from the 2025 CBCA Championship

2.      Highest placed Canadian team from the 2025 USBCHA Finals

3.      2nd  highest placed Canadian team from the 2025 CBCA Championship

4.      2nd highest placed Canadian team from the 2025 USBCHA Finals

5.      3rd  highest placed Canadian team from the 2025 CBCA Championship

If we are granted more team placements, have duplicate dog/handlers or handlers decline, we will continue to alternate between USBCHA and Canadian Double Lift Finals placements until all spots have been filled.

*Note should we run out of Double Lift placements for either event, then we will alternate between USBCHA Finals semi-final results and/or the CBCA opening round combined scores until the team is filled.  Finally, if necessary, we will go to the USBCHA field point rankings for the year ending July 31st, 2025.

In addition to the team spots, the next team in line will be selected as Reserve in the unfortunate event a team has to drop out.

Alternate Dog Rules:

All handlers may, at their discretion, name an alternate dog on their world trial entry. It is assumed that handlers will only do this should they have one of equal calibre.  Unless the Reserve Handler/Dog team takes priority as set out in the rules below, the handler may substitute their alternate dog for the first dog listed.  If they have qualified with two dogs, however, they may only substitute their alternate dog for one of the two listed dogs prior to entry submission.  If they have substituted for one listed dog already, and the second dog cannot go for some reason, it moves to the first Reserve handler/dog team.

Reserve Handler/Dog rules:

The world team qualification criteria is for the handler and dog combination; however, the emphasis is on the handler first.

Prior to Entry submission:  If the qualified dog is unable to attend the world trial prior to the world trial entry submission, and the handler has a suitable replacement, then they are allowed to enter that dog.  If they do not, or if the handler is unable to attend, then that team will step down and the Reserve team will go in their place.  The next Reserve will then be named using the original criteria.

After Entry submission:  The Reserve team will go if either the qualified handler is unable to attend, or the handler's dog is unable to attend, and they do not have an alternate listed on their entry.
